NHS
Overview
National Honor Society is a service organization, and members become involved in many service projects throughout the year, such as Socktober drive, Tie Blankets, Elementary school volunteering, and Feed My Starving Children. NHS is also in charge of the inside concessions during home events at RHS for fall sports [volleyball] and winter sports [boys basketball, girls basketball, wrestling, and dance team].
Members are required to do ten individual hours of volunteer work outside of school to keep their membership active and up-to-date. In addition, they are required to put in 30 group hours, which is usually taken care of during many of the service projects throughout the year. Members are expected to be at meetings every two weeks and to inform Mrs. Shermock, NHS Advisor if they cannot attend. It is an honor to be a part of Rogers NHS. Feel proud to represent our school and our community through volunteering.
In August 2024, those students in grades 10-12 who have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 and above will be invited to join NHS [9th-grade students become eligible after completion of their freshman year]. Students invited to apply will fill out an online application and receive recommendations from RHS teachers and others who know the student very well to comment on how a particular student excels in the 4 pillars that define NHS: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character.
Selection is based on a review of each completed application packet, faculty evaluation, and other verifiable information, which is reviewed by the NHS Faculty Advisory Council sometime in September 2024. The date of the 2024 NHS Induction Ceremony has been set for Monday, October 14, 2024, at 7 PM in the PAC. If you have questions, please call Tracy Shermock at (763) 274-3140, ext. 1725 , or by email: tracy.shermock@isd728.org.
