MSHSL Academic Eligibility NCAA

MSHSL Academic Eligibility

Students participating in Rogers High School athletics and activities must meet both Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) eligibility requirements and ISD 728 academic eligibility requirements.

What Activities Are Covered?

High school extra-curricular activities include:

  • Competitive athletic activities

  • Competitive enrichment activities

  • Non-competitive athletic activities

  • Non-competitive enrichment activities

MSHSL Academic Eligibility

The MSHSL requires students to make satisfactory progress toward graduation in order to participate in MSHSL-sponsored activities.

The MSHSL does not establish one statewide GPA or credit standard for all Minnesota schools. Instead, each school district determines what constitutes satisfactory progress toward its graduation requirements.

For ISD 728 students, academic eligibility is based on the district's GPA and credit requirements below.

ISD 728 Academic Eligibility Requirements

Students must:

  • Maintain a 2.00 cumulative GPA or higher on a 4.00 scale; and

  • Earn the required number of credits toward graduation.

Grades and credits are reviewed at the end of each semester. ISD 728 requires 43 credits for graduation.

What Happens If a Student Is Not Eligible?

  • Students who do not meet the 2.00 cumulative GPA requirement may be placed on academic probation.

  • Students who do not meet the required credit level may be considered academically ineligible.

  • Students and their parent/guardian will be notified when academic eligibility is affected.

  • An incomplete is treated as an F until the coursework is completed and a passing semester grade is posted.

  • Eligibility may be restored when the student meets the required academic standards.

  • Spring semester ineligibility carries over into the following fall semester.

  • Students who need to recover credits should contact their counselor about available credit recovery options.

Incoming 9th Graders

Students entering 9th grade are academically eligible for fall activities because 8th-grade grades are not used to determine high school academic eligibility.

Before Participating

Students must meet academic eligibility requirements before participating in an activity. Eligibility is determined using the student's most recent official grades and academic record.

If you are concerned about credits, grades, or eligibility, please contact your School Counselor.

Important

Academic eligibility requirements can change. Students and families should refer to the current MSHSL rules and ISD 728/Rogers High School requirements for the most current information.
