Understanding Your College Credits

Taking college-level courses in high school can give you a great head start, but credits to not transfer automatically.  It is the student's responsiblity to research how credits transfer and to work with their future college advisor. 

⚠️ Important Note from Counselors: High school counselors can only advise on how these courses fulfill high school graduation requirements. To plan your college path, you must utilize college resources and speak directly with your future institution.

1. Planning and Researching Transfers

Before you request transcripts, you can research how your specific credits will move with you:

• Use Transferology: Utilize Transferology to see how your high school college-credit classes will transfer to various colleges and universities.

• The Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC): We strongly advise students to select courses from the MnTC. If you plan to attend a public college or university in Minnesota, completing these courses ensures your general education blocks transfer smoothly.

2. Transferring Concurrent Enrollment & PSEO Credits

If you took a Concurrent Enrollment or PSEO course while at RHS, you must request an official transcript directly from the college that granted the credit (not from RHS) and have it sent to your future university.

• 🚨 Timing Tip: Wait to request your official college transcripts until all of your high school college courses are completed and your final grades are officially posted.

• Cost: Note that colleges charge a fee to process and send official transcripts.

3. Advanced Placement (AP) Credit

Many colleges will award college credit or advanced placement for passing an AP exam (typically a score of 3 or higher).

• How to Send Scores: Log into your College Board Account to officially send your AP Score Report to the college you plan to attend.

• Check College Policies: Different universities have different rules for what scores they accept. You can search specific institutional policies using the College Board AP Credit Policy Search Tool.
