Upcoming Dates
- 9/14 - 9/19: Homecoming Week
- 9/30: Picture Retake Day
- Please check the RHS Calendar for all the details
Attendance
Please plan ahead for your student's appointments/early dismissals. It is important to communicate with your student when they are to leave. While we understand that last minute needs do arise, we try to minimize interrupting class time. Students that are leaving for appointments during the day will not receive a pass, it will be updated in their attendance.
RHS does not have an open campus. Students who are scheduled to be here for in person classes or lunch are not allowed to leave to go to their cars, coffee shops, restaurants or home.
PSEO and online students ARE allowed to leave the building during times they do not have in-person classes or lunch.
Homecoming
Homecoming is one of the best weeks of the year to honor what makes Rogers High School special: our ROYAL pride, our traditions, and the people who make this community strong. We can't wait to welcome alumni back to campus and to cheer on our Royals together. We will honor the class of 2006 for their 20th High School Reunion at halftime.
A few key dates to mark:
• Spirit Week: Monday, September 14 - Friday, September 18
• Homecoming Football vs. Osseo: Friday, September 18, 6:00 p.m. at Rogers High School Stadium
• Homecoming Dance: Saturday, September 19, 7:00-10:00 p.m. at RHS
Let's show our Royal Pride and make this a memorable week together.

Please join us in celebrating Homecoming Week at Rogers High School throughout the week by attending many of our Royal fall activities. The full activities schedule can be found on BOUND .
As in previous years, RHS is working collaboratively with the Rogers Police Department (RPD) to foster a safe environment and eliminate negative behaviors at school and in the community, often seen during homecoming week. We are working together to curb negative traditions that have been troublesome in our community in/outside of homecoming week. Some of these negative behaviors have included:
-
Toilet papering trees/homes
-
Destruction of vehicles
-
Damage to private and public property
We need your assistance at school and in the community. Please have a conversation with your student about displaying positive behavior and making good decisions, especially during homecoming week, but also throughout the year. In addition, all coaches and advisors will talk to their teams about expectations and subsequent consequences.
As always, we will continue to represent RHS with a positive attitude by showing sportsmanship and school spirit. Remember to consider the impact of your words and actions. There is no place for behavior that promotes disrespect, hate, or harm to individuals or groups.
Students who violate school rules during events will be prohibited from attending school events for up to six weeks. When we all work as a team, we can focus on the positive traditions and eliminate negative behaviors. Please see the additional message below from the Rogers Police Department.
Message from the Rogers Police Department
We are excited to be part of another fun homecoming week at Rogers High School! The Rogers Police Department works directly with RHS to ensure the safety of everyone who participates in all the fun activities that the school has to offer. As a friendly reminder, during homecoming week, Rogers Police traditionally respond to a significant increase in vandalism and pranks, usually TPing and egging. Also, RPD deals with more underage alcohol violations and, sadly, controlled substance crimes. We encourage you to have a conversation with your kids regarding all of these concerns. Discuss the dangers, risks, and consequences, both academic and criminal. We want everyone to have a fun homecoming week and make good choices. As one of the School Resource Officers, I am always available for any questions or concerns.

Roo the Therapy Dog
We are excited to share that our school will be continuing a certified therapy dog program in partnership with You’re Not Alone. Therapy dogs can help create a calm, welcoming environment and support student well-being, connection, and engagement at school.
Roo, the therapy dog, will be in our building:
- 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month
- Moving throughout various classrooms and quiet areas, based on staff invitation and interest
The therapy dog will always remain with a trained handler and on a leash while in the building. Students will be taught expectations for interacting with the therapy dog, and accommodations will be made for students with allergies, fears, or other concerns.
Research shows therapy dogs can help reduce stress and anxiety, support emotional regulation, encourage positive social interaction, and promote student engagement and confidence.
We have attached additional information and guidance about the program and therapy dog expectations. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our office.
We look forward to bringing this additional support to our students and staff.

6 Steps to Building a Balanced College List
Choosing a college is one of the biggest decisions your student will make, and with over 4,000 U.S. institutions, getting started can feel overwhelming. The key is thorough research to build a well-balanced list of 5 to 8 schools where your student can thrive academically and personally.
Ms. Handrick (College & Career Specialist) can work with students to help navigate this process. Here is a simple 6-step roadmap to get started:
Step 1: Start with Broad Exploration
Encourage your student to look beyond household names using search tools like BigFuture, Appily, and MCIS. Suggest exploring schools using specific preferences (e.g., location, campus culture, climate), attending local college fairs, and meeting college representatives who visit RHS. Lesser-known schools often offer exceptional fit and opportunities.
Step 2: Identify Non-Negotiables
Have your teen make two lists: five "deal-breakers" (e.g., specific majors like engineering, geographic region, campus size) and five "nice-to-haves." Use the deal-breakers to immediately eliminate non-matching schools, while holding onto the "nice-to-haves" to compare options later on.
Step 3: Conduct In-Depth Research
Scour official university websites to look past basic facts and explore campus culture, student organizations, and study-abroad options. Do not eliminate schools based on sticker price alone—financial aid, scholarships, and institutional grants frequently lower the actual cost significantly.
Step 4: Gather Multiple Perspectives
Advise your student to consult their school counselor, teachers, alumni, and family. Student-driven review platforms like Unigo offer genuine insights into campus life, student satisfaction, and academic culture.
Step 5: Visit Campuses in Person
Try to visit at least three campuses before senior year begins. Experiencing different environments—such as a large urban university versus a small suburban college—helps students discover where they feel most at home.
Step 6: Finalize a Balanced List
Heading into senior year, narrow the selection to 5–8 colleges with a healthy mix of "reach," "match," and "likely" choices. Most importantly, ensure your student would be genuinely happy attending every school on their list, guaranteeing a successful outcome regardless of where they are admitted.

Safety & Internet Filtering at Home
ISD 728 Chromebooks will continue to have filtering to help protect students against harmful and inappropriate online material. Despite the District’s attempt to filter and provide additional protections outside of school, parents/guardians still play an important role in supervising their child's internet access and usage. Parents are encouraged to discuss rules for appropriate internet usage, and reinforce lessons of digital citizenship and safety. Please review our technology responsible use guidelines and visit www.isd728.org/Digital-
- Visit here for more information about what is filtered.
- Visit GoGuardian Parent App for information on how parents and guardians can monitor their children's Chromebook browsing activity, and choose to block sites such as YouTube.
